Their journey took an unexpected turn when Ferris, pregnant at 33 weeks, faced serious health complications during Americanafest. A diagnosis of severe preeclampsia and pancreatitis forced her into emergency care, cutting short what was meant to be a joyous trip. “It was honestly the biggest shock of both our lives,” she reflects, highlighting the anxiety and fear they endured as doctors quickly monitored her deteriorating condition.

Miraculously, Ferris and her husband Sylvester navigated those harrowing days and welcomed their son, born prematurely. In the wake of such a life-altering event and as they awaited the birth of their second child, they slowly began to process that difficult time. This reflection ultimately morphed into a focus on joy in their music.

Inspiration Amidst Adversity

Having grown up steeped in music, both artists draw heavily from personal experience and the influences of their fathers' diverse record collections. Ferris fondly recalls her days playing in pubs, often underage, while Sylvester’s early musical explorations included covertly “borrowing” CDs from his dad. Their early musical paths converged in Camden, London, where they honed their craft and eventually found themselves performing together.

They first gained traction in the industry with the release of their debut EP, The Yellow Line, recorded in Spain with the seasoned producer Youth. Their 2018 follow-up, Made In Streatham, marked a turning point, spurred on by a viral streaming success of its track “London’s Blues.” Self-release remains consistent for them, with the duo still running their label, Archtop Records.

By the time they approached the Americanafest in Nashville, their first album had just launched. They were brimming with optimism for what lay ahead, only to find themselves wrestling with events that would mark a significant turning point in their lives. Sylvester recalls their naivety, caught up in a blissful bubble only to be thrust into a harrowing reality. “We were so naive, this didn’t even cross our minds that something could go wrong,” he says.
